I just love recipes where I can substitute almost every ingredient for whatever I have in my fridge. This is one of those very “recipes”. The only breakfast rule in my house (at least on a school day) is that there must be at least one source of protein in the meal to keep their tummies satisfied until lunch. Last resort-a big spoonful of peanut butter.
With my kids, if their meal is somehow transformed into a silly face, it just disappears faster. It really doesn’t matter what the face is made of, the crazier the better. Better yet, just throw a bunch of foods on the table and let them create their very own faces, they can choose the ingredients themselves and they will be more likely to eat it.
Below are the ingredients that I used, but by all means, change it up. No time to make big eyes? Just use sliced hard boiled eggs (yellow pupil included). No blackberries? Use a strawberry, cashew, or what the heck, a piece of leftover meat for the nose. Don’t feel like frying up bacon? No problem…line up a bunch of raisins or peanuts. Anything goes!
Whole Wheat English Muffins
Sliced Black Olives
Berries or fruit of any sort
On each english muffin half, layer sliced cheese, egg, tomato, and black olive. Lay out all of the other ingredients and and let your kids make their own silly faces, then make them disappear!
