I had my first child, Michael, in Dublin. The Irish are incredible people….they live by the Irish Proverb…
They love Guinness, laughter, and of course soda bread slathered with butter. But they are kind and loving folks who know that…
The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.

So bake a loaf of this delicious and simple soda bread and enjoy a warm slice with a cold Guinness.

1 TBSP Baking Powder
1/3 Cup White Sugar
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
1 Egg, lightly beaten
2 Cups Buttermilk
1/4 Cup Butter, melted
Preheat oven to 325°. Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and baking soda. Blend egg and buttermilk together, and add all at once to the flour mixture. Mix just until moistened. Stir in butter. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the bread comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
